Recommended Routes for BoAT
The original 2017 study done by Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization connects the Virginia Capital Trail to Fort Monroe via the Peninsula and to the South Hampton Roads Trail via the Southside.
In order to provide more schools and businesses on the Peninsula access to the multi-use trail and include additional historic sites, a loop route was proposed on the Peninsula. The loop incorporates Hampton University, the Veterans Administration Hospital, the Newport News Shipyard, and Christopher Newport University along the James River side of the Peninsula.
